Study Modules in Central Asia: Success for the winter semester

The programme “Study Modules in Central Asia” has started successfully for the winter semester. More and more  students from German universities are recognising its special advantages: They can, usually during the semester break in Germany, study a course in German or English with lecturers from different German universities within only two weeks and can recognise the credit points by their home university.  Despite a short trip to Central Asia and the “short studies” at the DKU, the studies can be continued at home without delay. This has now convinced 14 students from four universities who are attending a Flying Faculty course at the DKU. If you are interested in the programme, please read the information on our website at http://www.dku-projekt.de/module-studieren/ or contact Ms. Christiane Mittmann (c.mittmann@hs-sm.de).

New Applications for Double Degree Scholarships and Scholarships for Fees and Living Fees

For the coming academic year, the DKU Project Office has submitted follow-up applications to the DAAD for fee and living scholarships and scholarships for the double degree programme. In the academic year 2019/20, more students at the DKU will be able to receive a precious scholarship for the double degree programme at one of the German consortium partner universities. With the increase of the scholarships, the DKU hopes to motivate more students to apply and to further strengthen the relationship to Germany at the DKU. With the new application, this time a higher number of living scholarships and fewer fee scholarships were applied for in order to attract more applicants living outside Almaty to study at the DKU.

The 16th edition of the Summer University took place at the DKU from 30 July to 11 August 2018. It was entitled “Regional and Transnational Cooperation in Central Asia”. A total of 28 students from Kazakhstan, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Finland took part in the Summer University and gained an insight into the economic and political relations of the region. In addition to the acadamic input on political and economic cooperation by Steve Schlegel (TU Dortmund), Prof. Irina Chernyk and Prof. Rustam Burnashev (both DKU) discussed security policy issues with the students. Along with the lectures and seminars there was a vivid programme for the participants to discover Almaty and its surroundings. The summer school was organized by a team around Dr. Sebastian Mayer (DKU) in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the DAAD and financially supported by the DKU project.
